[date] The Honorable Barbara Boxer Hart Senate Office Building, #112 Washington, DC 20510 [Or] Hon. Senator Diane Feinstein Hart Senate Office Building, #331 Washington, DC 20510 Re: The National Affordable Housing Trust Fund Act, S. 2523 Dear Senator Boxer: I am writing to thank you for co-sponsoring S. 2523, the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund Act of 2007, and to ask that you make passing this bill one of your highest priorities for 2008. Dear Senator Feinstein: I am writing to urge you to cosponsor S. 2523, the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund Act of 2007. This legislation, introduced in the Senate on December 19, 2007, with bipartisan support, will provide my community with a much needed, dedicated source of non-tax dollars to build, rehabilitate, and preserve housing for people with the lowest incomes. [both Senators] Santa Clara County, California, has long suffered from a lack of housing affordable to extremely low-income (ELI) households. According to the 2000 Census, 28,130 (75%) of ELI renter households were paying more than 30% of their income for housing. Homeless shelters are not the solution to housing for low-income people in our communities. Money for the construction of new housing that is permanently affordable to ELI families and individuals is the key to solving our housing crisis. The National Affordable Housing Trust Fund Act 2007 is the best chance we have had in several decades to get this money. Therefore, I urge you to make passing this legislation a high priority for this year. I hope you will become a leading advocate for this legislation. Thank you for all the support you have provided. Sincerely, [your full name]
